How to Fix Corrupt Drivers

One way to fix corrupt drivers is to restore your system to a point before the driver went missing or became corrupt. To do this, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and from then just follow the prompts.

If you're able to fix the problem, then nothing else to do. However at this point you may want to scan your system for Spyware and malware to make sure it is not infected.

Often, these malicious programs will invade your system and they typically cause a number of issues including corrupting resources like device drivers, so it's important to check against this type of infection as more serious problems can arise.

If the systems restore does not fix the corrupt driver, go to your "device manager" ( Start > run, type: devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Locate the corrupted device driver and click on uninstall then reboot your system.

When windows reboots it will automatically reinstall whatever drivers it finds suitable. These are typically generic drivers that can enable your hardware again, at least to the most basic functionality.

Once your PC is up and running, you'll be able to either install a newer version of the driver from CD or from the manufacturer's site.

If your hardware is still unable to function or find a suitable driver, the quickest fix is to use an automated tool that can scour the internet for the most suitable driver for your hardware.

Driver tools are convenient and their built-in automatic driver download features work silently to keep your hardware properly up to date.
